Benefits of CARP – Canadian Association of Retired Persons

The Canadian Association of Retired Persons, or CARP as it is more commonly known, is the largest non-profit organization providing retired people with useful information on retirement living. Organized in 1987 by retired lawyers, the association has grown to encompass over 85,000 individuals across Canada. As Canada’s only national retired persons’ organization, CARP operates under a federal charter and its members are from all walks of life who want to stay active in their search for the best possible retirement lifestyle.

In addition to providing retired people with invaluable information on health, finance, housing, leisure activities and the like, CARP encourages people to take an interest in their country’s political activities. The association does not support any particular political party but rather encourages people to become involved in the electoral process so that politicians will be more aware of retired people’s interests and concerns when creating public policy.

CARP also provides Canadians with information on other national retired persons’ organizations so that they can link up with like-minded individuals in their area of the country or join expatriate organizations.

The association has come a long way since its 1987 founding and is now one of the most trusted organizations representing retired Canadians. If you are retired, CARP provides many useful links that you can take advantage of when you want to get involved with related issues.

  1. Hello! A friend told me about CARP when she heard we are taking a trip to BC. I am wondering about getting some health insurance. My husband and I are not yet retired, but will be within six months. Are we able to get travel insurance through CARP, even though we are not yet retired? Do we have to be retired to join? We’re close!
